Queensway: mansion blocks and communal doors
Queensway and the streets around it — Porchester Gardens, Inverness Terrace, Moscow Road — sit at the centre of the coverage area. As a result, callouts here tend to be quick. Most of the building stock is converted mansion blocks, with two layers of security. There’s a communal front door, often on an entryphone or fob system, and your own flat door behind it.

Paddington and W2
We cover the eastern stretch of W2, running down towards Paddington station and Lancaster Gate, from the same base. This is what most people mean by “locksmith W2”. Purpose-built blocks near Lancaster Gate usually run keypad or fob entry systems with standard euro cylinders behind them.
These are quick to service, but it’s worth having the right cylinder profile on the van before arrival. The older streets nearer Paddington itself run more to timber doors and period mortice locks. A BS3621 upgrade is often the practical fix here, once a lock has failed or a tenancy has ended.
What a Bayswater door usually needs
A lot of the housing stock here is stucco terraces split into flats during the twentieth century. This means the front door was designed once and has been fitted with two or three generations of hardware since. It’s common to find a Yale-style rim latch doing the job alone, which most insurers won’t count as a deadlock. However, where the door and frame allow it, we fit a BS3621 mortice deadlock under the existing latch.
This keeps the cost down and the period look intact. Flats retrofitted with uPVC doors get a different check: the multipoint mechanism and the euro cylinder. We upgrade to an anti-snap cylinder where the existing one is a security weak point.
Hotels and short lets around Queensway
Queensway and Lancaster Gate have a dense run of hotels, guest houses and short-let flats. The lock work here is a bit different from a family home. Specifically, it involves mechanical cylinder locks alongside electronic keypad or card systems, plus frequent guest turnover.
Owners and managing agents usually need a fast, reliable cylinder change between lets rather than a full security overhaul. As a result, we carry stock for both mechanical and electronic setups and can turn a changeover around quickly.
