It helps to say this plainly, because the name is shared. This page covers Portobello Road, Notting Hill, in west London, W11. It is not the coastal district of Portobello in Edinburgh.

Market days and getting to you
Portobello Road’s famous market runs mainly on Fridays and Saturdays. On those days, the road is closed to traffic and packed with stalls, shoppers and tourists. We approach on foot from the nearest place we can park.
We do not try to drive down the road itself. That can add a little time to reaching you, so allow for it on a Saturday. Weekday and evening callouts are not affected.
Period shops with flats above
Much of Portobello Road and the streets around it is period buildings. Many have a shop, stall or storage unit at street level, with flats above. In particular, these flats are usually reached through a separate side or rear entrance.

Notting Hill

Most of the grand stucco terraces here were built as single houses. They have since been split into two, three or more flats, with a communal front door and individual flat doors behind it. As with any shared entrance, that door is common property. We need sign-off from the freeholder or managing agent before we work on it, although your own flat door is a simpler job once you confirm that you live there.

Meanwhile, break-ins here tend to cluster on lower-ground and garden-flat doors with older frames. A burglary repair means making the door secure properly, not patching it. Lock changes are steady work too, particularly around tenancy turnover in the many let flats.
Westbourne Grove
Westbourne Grove’s boutique shops and restaurants sit south of Portobello Road, while the security needs lean commercial. Shopfront cylinders and staff key control matter most. Where a break-in has happened, we handle the repair so the door is secure, not just closed for now.
Ladbroke Grove
North and west of Portobello Road, Ladbroke Grove is mostly Victorian terraces, many converted into flats. Similarly, the same communal-door pattern applies. There is a shared entrance that needs the managing agent’s sign-off, and individual flat doors that are a simpler job.
